The Executive Yuan recently decided that beginning on January 1, 2010, individual overseas income exceeding NT$1 million per year will be listed in the taxpayer's basic income, along with income earned in Taiwan, non-cash gifts, non-taxable income payments, employee stock dividends, and income from non-listed stocks, and will be subject to the alternative minimum tax. This includes income on securities investment, land transactions, and bank interest.
Eiger partner John Eastwood gave a presentation on proposed amendments to Taiwan's Trademark Law as part of a panel at the Nov. 17, 2008, meeting of the European Chamber of Commerce in Taipei (ECCT) IPR Committee. Presentations on proposed amendments to Taiwan's Patent Law were also made by fellow panel members Calvin Tsai of GSK and James Li of Philips.

Michael Werner and Cammi Rao gave speeches at a seminar hosted by Taiwan's External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) in cooperation with the German Trade Office, covering how Taiwanese companies exhibiting overseas should prepare for and handle patent-infringement claims that arise in overseas trade shows, as well as how to control litigation expenses and work effectively with overseas counsel. Michael, a German lawyer, talked specifically about German procedures, while Cammi, a Taiwan lawyer, discussed several useful methods for working effectively with overseas counsel.
